Good evening fifth grade families,
Happy Monday! I hope that everyone had a wonderful and restful weekend. It was wonderful to see all of you at conferences last week. I apologize for this being a late 'weekly' update- last week was quite the busy one (that and I'm still getting over MSU's loss this weekend...) Thank goodness we finally have a full week of school this week.
While last week was a short one, we still managed to keep ourselves busy! On Monday, Mr. Sander and Father Dan put on a 2nd Quarter Virtues 'Kick-Off' assembly for each grade level. This quarter we are continuing to focus on the cardinal virtue of Justice. Something new that was introduced this quarter is that students have the chance to earn Saint cards as an award for being 'caught' living a virtue- these can be given out by any STA teacher, administrator, or recess/lunch parent helper. If your child does earn a saint card, they will be recognized at the end of the month during our morning announcements. We were very excited to hear about these!
Students also progressed through division centers on Monday and Tuesday- our target for the lesson was to understand how to look for patterns in division problems. As each week goes by, I can see our 5th graders growing more and more confident with long division! We have been enjoying testing our thinking through different learning activities. Also, students have really been enjoying using FrontRow on iPads during math- don't forget, you can also do this at home! Great Common Core based practice.
In Language Arts, we discussed descriptive writing and wrote a strong descriptive paragraph about what we love about fall. These turned out great and are hanging proudly on display in our classroom! Look for these to come home next week.
Have a blessed week!
