Good evening 5th grade families!
For those of you that I have not had the opportunity to meet yet, my name is Natalie D'Amico and this year I am your child's teacher. This is my second year here at St. Thomas Aquinas, and I continue to be so wonderfully grateful to be a part of this community! God is GOOD!
Every Friday this year, I will be sending out a newsletter that will briefly describe what happened in our class throughout the week. The contents of these newsletters will be emailed to you (once I acquire everyone's email addresses) and also be posted on the 'Our Classroom' page of our classroom website. Our class website will be a space for you (students and parents) to visit frequently throughout the year as well, so please be sure to save the link.
This week in room 116, our 5th graders came prepared and excited to start school (despite the heat)! We focused a great deal on beginning to build our classroom community and discussing expectations and procedures for the year. We have played games together, we have read together, and we have had fun together! I read some fun back-to-school books to both classes- be sure to ask your 5th grader about it! We also met our kindergarten buddies and did a wonderful job with them at mass on Wednesday!! I can already tell, we are great leaders. Both classes have also spent time building our reading community- we are going to focus on sharing books with each other and enjoying the love of reading! Today, my homeroom class brainstormed what our ideal classroom would look like and began to create a class mission statement together. Students in my homeroom class also have homework this weekend- we will be starting our Paper Bag Project on Tuesday. They were sent home with a paper bag and 3 tags and are to chose 3 things to place in the bag that are special to them and that will help us get to know them better.
A note about Remind (texting update program)
Thank you for all of your support so far this year! I am looking forward to working with you and your child.
