I hope that everyone has enjoyed their weekend and is having a restful Sunday! I apologize for not getting this newsletter out on Friday, my computer was having a bit of issues. I have just finished uploading pictures from Friday onto the Class Story page on Class Dojo (these didn't upload properly), so please be sure to check them out.
We had a fabulous FULL week last week! A big congrats to both 5th grade classes again for reaching their class goals! We had a lot of fun celebrating by having fun with our lunch in the classroom and popsicles! My class also had a blast with our recess with Fr. Dan. Well done! Our next goal will be to reach 5,000 points as a class- we can do it!
Last week we took our first math pre-assessment as we prepare to begin our first math unit on place value. Before the start of each unit I will be giving students a pre-assessment to assess their knowledge (if any) of what we are going to be covering. The purpose of this is for me to see if a student/students already has mastery of a topic, or if a student/students will be needing extra reinforcement during the unit. These are not graded- I only score them and record the data for myself. The pre-test scores are also shared individually with each student. This unit will be starting on Monday. We will also begin our first Problem of The Week.
In writing, we have just about completed the paper blogging process. We will be covering mini lessons on digital citizenship starting this week, and I hope to introduce our online blogging platform, Kidblog.org, to both classes at the end of the week. If we do get to that, I will be sending info home for you about Kidblog later this week as well. We have also began our weekly language review and had a first lesson on prepositions that was a lot of fun! We will be starting our first language centers this week, as well as beginning our first reading unit in Making Meaning.
Important Reminders This Week:
Please let me know if you have any questions about anything! Have a wonderful evening.
