Hello and happy Friday, 5th grade families!
We had a busy yet wonderful 2nd week of school. Thankfully, the weather cooperated and it wasn't unbearably hot again! This week we enjoyed getting to know each other more, especially with the help of our AWESOME paper bag projects!! We are just about done with them (3 more to go) and I have been so amazed by all of the interesting things that each student has brought in to share about themselves! Also, thank you to everyone that has sent back your child's information sheet and a contact card- I have been having a lot of fun reading about your child from your perspective! I am constantly learning!
We have also enjoyed a lot of new things this week as well. Class Dojo, our positive behavior program was introduced and we started receiving points for positive things we do in class. We love it so far! Today we had our first 'Dojo Friday' and were introduced to the rewards that we can use our points for- this was very exciting! We have also explored different ways we will use technology in math- Kahoot (a fun way to review in groups), Front Row, and Reflex Math (116 will check this out on Monday). Also, in writing we have launched our unit on blogging. This is the start of a year long writing project that we will be doing, where eventually (not for a few weeks) students will be blogging on our KidBlog site. The purpose for this is for students to have an authentic way to practice writing with an audience other than myself- they can write freely and interact with each other by commenting. For now, we are going through a process called Paper Blogging, where we are modeling the blogging steps offline. We have begun to think of ideas for our very first blog post, which can be about anything that we choose and feel comfortable sharing with an audience of our peers. Next week we will create our paper blogs and discuss commenting. We will also begin a mini focus on Digital Citizenship and how to maintain safety online. I am very excited for this journey, and the kids seem like they are too! More information will come as we progress through this process.
A big thank you to everyone that has had success in signing up for Class Dojo and Remind- I hope you are enjoying both pieces of technology that I use daily to communicate with you. If you have had trouble, please let me know, and I can happily add you to either one of those programs.
Please be sure to check out the 'pictures' tab- there will be more uploaded later today!
Have a wonderful weekend- GO GREEN!
